Concrete staining and sealing
Not every slab needs a coating. Sometimes the concrete itself is worth keeping, and staining plus sealing preserves the look while adding protection.
Acid staining
Acid stain reacts chemically with minerals in the concrete rather than sitting on top of it. The result is variegated and permanent, closer to weathered stone or leather than to a uniform color. Because it is a reaction, results vary with the slab, which is part of the appeal.
Sealing
Sealing protects against freeze-thaw damage, salt, oil, and staining. On patios, driveways, and walkways in this climate it meaningfully extends the life of the concrete. It typically needs renewal every few years depending on exposure.
Good candidates
Patios, pool decks, walkways, driveways, and interior slabs where the existing concrete is sound and the goal is protection plus appearance rather than full resurfacing.
