Polyaspartic coatings
Polyaspartic is a newer chemistry than epoxy and it solves two problems epoxy has: cure time and UV stability.
Faster cure
Epoxy needs a long window between coats and a long cure before vehicle traffic. Polyaspartic can be recoated in hours, which is why a single-day install is realistic with it and rarely is with straight epoxy.
It will not yellow
Epoxy ambers when exposed to sunlight. In a garage with the door open half the day, the strip nearest the opening will discolor over time. Polyaspartic is UV stable and stays the color it went down.
Cold weather installation
Standard epoxy struggles below roughly 50 degrees. Polyaspartic formulations cure at substantially lower temperatures, which makes winter work in Louisville possible rather than a gamble. Contractors often discount during slow winter months, so it can be the cheapest time of year to get the work done.
The tradeoff
It costs more per square foot and it is less forgiving to install because of the short working time. It is not a DIY product. Done right it is the better floor; done by someone learning on your garage it is an expensive mistake.
